Why to choose a one-on-one course?

Read only if you deeply care about your child

Today you are faced with a number of choices when it comes to selecting computer science and programming courses for your child. They broadly fall into three categories:

  • Self-taught courses come either in the form of a book/e-book or an app. The defining attributes of these are the very broad selection, self-paced instruction and unfortunately lack of any help if something goes wrong. In other words, be prepared for a “mum/dad, I need help with…

  • Group courses, either online or on-site. These courses vary greatly depending on price and the number of participants. You will find courses with 3-4 participants, usually reaching the prices comparable with one-on-one, where you should expect a good degree of help from the instructor. You will also find cheaper courses with larger, sometimes considerably, groups. This is where we receive most calls from desperate parents seeking our help before their frustrated child turns their back on coding forever.

  • One-on-one courses and lessons give both the parent and the child the best possible service, with a pace adjusted to the needs of the child and plenty of scope to explain more complex problems. While you would expect these to be the most expensive, it is not always the case.

One-on-one lessons are often delivered by private tutors, with the quality varying from tutor to tutor. If you choose this way, it is up to you to interview and recruit the tutor.

Then there are one-on-one courses delivered by companies like ours. From the above comparison you may already guess why we opted for this one. It really allows us to provide the best possible service to you. Why choose this?

  • Your child will receive tuition from a carefully selected instructor who passed extensive background checks (Enhanced CRB).

  • Our instructor has a very detailed plan of what to teach, however:

  • You can rest assured that our number one priority is your child - their wellbeing, their satisfaction and understanding of what we are teaching.

  • That means we will slow down when necessary. We will pick up on areas which require additional explanation, often incorporating them into new, interesting activities.

  • Likewise, we will speed up while covering the areas in which your child seems already confident. Time is always of the essence and we are not going to waste it.

  • We pride ourselves on flexibility. Our instructors are experts in the programming languages they teach and therefore no question is left unanswered.

  • Often our tutees come to the lesson with a project they started in the meantime and need help with. From our experience we know these projects are the best opportunity to teach your child and therefore we will engage with passion and joy.

  • And last but not least your child will receive detailed notes after each lesson, so they can quickly recap on past material, if they want to (for example, while working on their own project)

What does it mean for you?

First, that saves time, both your and your child’s. One-on-one tuition is the most time effective way of learning. It saves you time, because instead of searching for the answers yourself, you have an instructor your child can ask. And it saves your child’s time, because our instructor knows exactly what to teach and will spend exactly the right amount of time required for your child to learn each topic. Why is it important? It’s important, because the FamilyEducation report (familyeducation.com) lists lack of time as one of the top worries of today’s teenagers.

Second, one-on-one tuition gives you the best learning outcome of all forms of learning. It matters, since every poll including the one done by HuffPost (huffingtonpost.co.uk) list grades as number one concern among teenagers. No surprise between 16 and 24% of parents, as Sutton Trust report (www.suttontrust.com) reveals, chooses one-on-one courses.

And here are our own results, according to the parents:

I highly recommend Educademy! They have been really great with teaching my 9 year old Python. She thoroughly enjoys the classes and went on to win a school math competition after sharing one of the Python math games she created with her instructor, Harry.

It's also really helped her with overall logical problem solving skills and demystifying computer programming which she's watched me do but always assumed was really difficult.

I have found the team highly professional, flexible and very responsive.
